Diversity Chapter 1 Blog Post

What it means to be an American can mean different things to different individuals. My views of what it means to be an American has changed over the past years due to the events that has transpired all throughout our country. Basically because there are so many differences among individuals living here in the United States there is no one clear concise idea of what it means to be an American. To some people it means freedom, chance of growth and opportunity some other people it means equality and justice. There once was a time that I thought of America as those very things but in recent years it means injustice, fear, and suppression. That is what being an American means to me now and fear for my sons to be targeted for being young black males in this country because they are being slaughtered by each other and the police who are supposed to protect us.

The question was asked does the reigning Miss America represent an American? I can't really answer that question definitively because there is not clear cut way to say that any one person is a true American or not. Does it go by their patriotism or them answering questions properly about how they feel about America? Who really knows or can say that they are the authority on that subject? Nobody can say that one person does or doesn't represent an American.

The projected 2050 demographics in America shows an increase in the workforce for all races except the white, non-hispanic reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
